Projects led by faculty members of our University’s Faculty of Technology have been awarded support under The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) funding programs.
The project titled “Development of a Laboratory-Scale Ultrasonically Assisted Distillation System for the Extraction of Essential Oils from Medicinal and Aromatic Plants” (Project No. 7260691), coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah GENÇ, a faculty member of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Faculty of Technology of Isparta University of Applied Sciences (IUAS), has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1507 Support Program.
Bringing together technology and agriculture, the project will involve Prof. Dr. İsa TELCİ, a faculty member of the Department of Field Crops at the IUAS Faculty of Agriculture; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Habib DOĞAN, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Technologies and Information Systems at the Gölhisar School of Applied Sciences of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Bahadır BAŞYİĞİT, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Technologies and Information Systems at the IUAS Vocational School of Distance Education. The project will be implemented by Habwave Solution Ltd. Co., a company operating within the Lakes Region Technopark.
Within the scope of the project, conventional distillation methods used for obtaining essential oils from medicinal and aromatic plants will be modernized through an advanced ultrasonically assisted system. Designed as a solution to the lengthy processing times and high energy costs associated with traditional methods, this laboratory-scale domestic device is expected to enable the efficient release of essential oils by rapidly breaking down plant cell walls and tissues through the cavitation effect generated by ultrasonic waves.
The project aims to establish an optimized infrastructure for high-purity production at the laboratory scale while reducing distillation time, improving energy efficiency, and increasing essential oil yield compared to conventional distillation systems. Although imported devices employing this technology are currently available, their costs remain considerably high. The system to be developed within the scope of the project is expected to reduce dependence on high-cost imported equipment.
In addition, the project titled “Design and Development of a Hybrid Robot with an Integrated Tracked Ground and Aerial Mobility System” (Project No. 126E135), coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merdan ÖZKAHRAMAN, a faculty member of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, has been awarded support under the TÜBİTAK 1002 Program.
